Fried Hair Sucks
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I am so annoyed with my hair. I've been conditioning it everyday to get it less fried, I've been putting lots of various expensive hair repair things on it etc, the condition seems to be *feeling* better but it still WILL NOT take color. I dunno if hair can get to a point when it's so overprocessed and pourous color won't take but I think mine has. I am trying to lighten a top layer of it to blonde (the bottom layers are deep brown, I want blonde over dark brown). I can't bleach it or it will fall out. It was a medium brown, but before that it was red. The red ,as it tends to do, has taken over it seems. The lighter blonde a shade I put on it the redder it turns. It's like a bleh "just bleached out black" looking strawberry gross blonde on that top layer now. I have to use rotten amonia free low lift dyes because my hair is so fried, so I am sure those are not really doing much for lift/toning. But I have a feeling even if I *could* stick a high lift blonde on there even with a toner this shit is still going to be reddish. RED HAIR DYE IS FROM HELL. I would give a million dollars to be able to bleach this shit with my tried and true bleach, but I am sure I would have NO hair left on top if I did. Anyone got ANY suggestions? Is there some miracle to getting hair blonde without frying it. Heh. I have NEVER fried my hair in all my 26 years. I am so not used to not being able to bleach. I have done some REALLY fucked up stuff to my hair and never had it so fried that it won't take color and gets all cotton candy textured. Poo-poo! I guess 14+ years of hair dying finally caught up to me. This sucks. I don't wanna go on vacation with boring yucky hair, but I don't wanna have to dye it back black as an only option for semi weird hair either.

I wish I could give some useful, exciting new discovery for hair repair. heh. I just redyed mine, and although the color is incredible, the condition is disturbingly fried.

You look fabulous in your recent pix though, so I'm certain whatever you do for the LA trip will look wonderful!

I would be interested if he thought he could get my top layer blonde (actually what I really want it is that silvery old lady color) without frying it too much more. I am also really going to be tight on cash on this trip, as I just don't have tons to blow like I sometimes do on trips, but let me know what the rates are and if you have any appointments on thursday (the 26th) (or wednesday the 25th0 and I would love to maybe give it a go if it's not too pricey.

I've been trying forever to lift the black out of my hair so that I can streak it. The only streaks I can get are dogshit brown-red streaks. :( I guess the 15+ layers of black dye are stuck for good. I wish I could give you some advice, but I've fried my hair on several occasions. :(

Hi.
I was just browsing LJ and came across your journal.
Have you tried a colour reducer? That should get most of the old dye out without bleach. Effasol by loreal is great, you should be able to get it from most beauty supplies stores.

Also, my hair is at the point where it wont take colour anymore. I put a black in 2 days ago and now its silver. So Im going to go get a porosity filler / balancer. It fills in all the damaged bits on the hairshaft and helps colour to grab better.

I really should knw better than to bleach the crap out of my hair as im a hairdresser but the temptation is too much.

Try a colour reducer on the redish bits, and a porosity filler on the rest.
If the colour reucer doesnt work let me know and I will look into a really gentle way to bleach it out.

Bye

be careful with effasol. it's nasty stuff. i lost my eyebrows once using that stuff. and hair filler might work, but chances are it won't. i've been doing the bleaching for a while, and acheived totally white hair. unfortunatley, i am at the point where nothing will take, except at the roots. i put in red hair color over the filler, and that just washed right out except for some nasty rusty patches. the only thing i can suggest is extreme conditioning, which I'm sure you already do anyway. or just play with the vegie dye colors again for a while. cut it or add fake hair.... you know the drill. welcome to the club, your hair is officially "blown out".

One of my best friends works as a stylist at a salon chain that you've heard of. She's a hair-dye/stylist guru of some sort. Her hair always looks badass and it's about 15 different colors and 47 lengths. Anyway, she does extra work for friends "on the side" as well. It's not really my place to offer out her services, but if you're interested in having professional work done in your own home drop me an email and I'll run it by her and put you guys in touch. She's generally always down to make some extra cash on the side.

I know this is an older entry, so you may have already found a product that works great for you. Sadly, I don't know of any bleaching type products that won't fry your hair, but as for deep conditioners, there's one called Ion that seems to work very well, and it's not expensive either. It comes in a packet and I pretty much just slather it on my hair, throw on a shower cap for about 45 minutes, rinse it out and voila! Hope all works out well for you.
